The little bird

The picture is only an illustration for a piece of poetry that I wrote. So I'm almost embarrassed to upload such a rough and sketchy picture

This poem is a narrative one, called
The little bird


The little bird who had never known freedom
Thought the garden was stunningly beautiful
Oh yes, it had all she had ever hoped for
But she knew that one day
She would outgrow this garden
Just like her curiosity had swelled
Beyond the size of her cage
She wondered what the world was like
Outside the confines of the garden
Would it be just as pretty?
Would it have even more than she’d ever hoped for?
The little bird had begun to notice the flaws in her garden
The thorns, and the mud
Instead of cutting the thorns
And planting pretty flowers in the mud
She dreamt of flapping her wings
On the other side of that fence
And so the day came when she decided to escape
The little bird flapped her wings and struggled
Struggled
To fly high enough, over and above
But her little wings got caught in the barbed wire
Tangled up and stuck
She cried out in pain
Attracting the attention of a nearby
Spider horde
The spiders let go of their daily work
And came to her aid
They freed her torn wings and carried her
Back into the garden.

The little bird who had never known freedom
Suddenly re-realized the beauty of that garden
And along with the spiders
She cut the thorns down
And planted pretty flowers in the mud
Spider lilies.
